12 17 Catholic Bishops Now Speaking at Rallies
Posted by Matt Yonke (March 16, 2012 at 5:38 pm)
With the Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom now only a week away, 12 17 Catholic bishops are signed on to speak at various Rallies across the country, with more sending letters, messages or their Apostolic Blessing.
We’re so excited to have the support of these brave twelve fifteen and we’re eager for more of their brother bishops to join the effort, too.
The Catholic bishops are the ones who called for resistance to the President’s Mandate and it’s great to see them supporting our response.
Here’s the list of bishops attending Rallies so far:
- Most Rev. Robert J. Baker, S.T.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Birmingham
- Most Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, Bishop of the Diocese of Oakland
- Most Rev. Cirilo Flores, Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of San Diego
- Most Rev. Thomas Doran, Bishop of the Diocese of Rockford
- Most Rev. Kenneth Steiner, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Portland
- Most Rev. John Quinn, Bishop of the Diocese of Winona
- Most Rev. John Kudrick, Bishop of the Eparchy of Parma
- Most Rev. David Choby, Bishop of the Diocese of Nashville
- Most Rev. John Yanta, Bishop Emeritus of Amarillo Diocese
- Most Rev. Robert Morlino, Bishop of the Diocese of Madison
- Most Rev. Leonard Blair, Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo
- Most Rev. Joseph Latino, Bishop of the Diocese of Jackson
- Most Rev. Peter Jugis, Bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte
- Most Rev. Luis Zarama, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta
- Most Rev. Michael Byrnes, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Detroit
- Most Rev. Mitchell Rozanski, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Baltimore
- Most Rev. Randolph Calvo, Bishop of the Diocese of Reno
If your bishop isn’t on the list, why not ask if he’ll join or offer support to your local Rally?
Bishop Choby of Nashville was the first one to say yes I will come to the rally and speak. Thank you Bishop for your stand for the sanctity of human life. Others soon wanted to be on the platform when they heard Bishop Choby was coming.

Dear Bishops,
Thank you for uniting and defending our religious liberities. Please see that each parish priest expresses your views regarding our religious freedom whether it is convenient to their respective parishoners or not. We must be one voice and we must not allow our public faith to be denied or silenced or intimidated by a vocal minority. Let our voices be one and let it be loud and clear.
You are all in my prayers daily.
God bless you and keep you all safe.
March 17th, 2012 at 3:16 pm

If the bishops want to do this much politicking, then maybe it’s time to revoke the Catholic Church’s tax exempt status.
March 18th, 2012 at 10:31 pm
We need to pray for all our priests and bishops for perserverance in this fight.
March 18th, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Bishop Charles C. Thompson of the Evansville, Indiana Diocese will attend and give the opening prayer for the rally that will be held in Evansville, Indiana.
March 19th, 2012 at 11:08 am
I haven’t heard anything at all about our Bishop here in Richmond, Virginia. I hope he plans to attend one of the rallies in the state. I was alarmed that no rally was listed for Richmond and was told there was a listing but was taken off. I enlisted a friend to help me get something going here in Richmond. If you are from Richmond, contact your church and try to get them invloved and be on the look out( check rally listings) and stay tuned, we might have something soon!!
Saint Joseph, pray for us!
March 19th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles please join the list of speakers. As the Ordinary of the largest Catholic diocese in the country, that would really make an impact. The California political establishment, and the ultra pro-abortion Los Angeles Times don’t take the Catholic Church very seriously.
Your appearance at the rally would help convince them that the anger of Catholics and people of faith at the HHS mandate is very real.
March 19th, 2012 at 8:46 pm
As a life-long Lutheran, I am supporting the Catholics on this one and will attend the rally in Allentown, PA. We have to stand together for religious freedom in our great country.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:20 am
Bishop David Kagan of Bismarck, ND has a prior committment, but he has written a statement, which will be read at the rally. He is an outstanding Bishop and supportive of doing the rally from the get-go. ND’s other Bishop, Samuel Aquila of the Fargo diocese, is sending a representative to Bismarck to read his statement since he is unable to attend. I am very proud of Bishop Aquila, not only for writing a statement, but to actually send someone 200 miles to read it on his behalf!
ND is blessed to have these 2 holy men as our Bishops!
March 20th, 2012 at 12:53 pm
why not Boston!! ??
March 20th, 2012 at 1:02 pm

March 20th, 2012 at 1:21 pm
One clarification to my previous post — it has not been finalized whether or not a representative from Fargo will attend, BUT Bishop Aquila’s statement will be read at the rally.
March 20th, 2012 at 2:10 pm

March 20th, 2012 at 4:04 pm
Only 15 bishops out of the 153 diocesan bishops active in the USA.

I read that the rally in Boston is cancelled; I would go to Providence,RI or Concord,NH but it just costs too much in gas. I am so very disappointed because I intended to take train into Boston on Friay.

March 21st, 2012 at 3:54 pm
This issue touches all denominations, all religions. You have much support among non-Catholics. I plan to attend the Birmingham rally, and hope to see my own pastor there. God bless you all. In his letter to the church at Galatia(Gal. 5:1), Paul wrote: “Stand fast in the liberty where with Christ hath made you free, and be not entangled with the yoke of bondage.” Spiritual freedom is the core of the message, but it is key. Without spiritual freedom there can be no other.
March 21st, 2012 at 7:15 pm
Thank you to all of the non-Catholics who are in support, especially Mary Ann Vought. I don’t see Bishop Joseph McFadden of Harrisburg Diocese on that list. Please, Bishop McFadden, come and help us help you support freedom of all religion, and freedom of conscience! If Jesus is with us, who can be against us?
March 21st, 2012 at 8:41 pm
Correction please: The Rally in Boston is scheduled for the Boston Common at noon this Friday, March 23. It was scheduled for JFK bldg., but that changed to the The Common at noon. Sorry for previous email – got new info.

I live in Phoenix and I pray Bishop Olmstead will attend the rally…he has been a true leader in the pro-life movement. We need him at this Friday rally downtown! His presence will give strength to the Cause. God bless everyone attending….we need to take a stand against the government’s intrusive actions.
March 23rd, 2012 at 2:48 am
Am I the only person raised Catholic who finds this alarming? How can the Church maintain a tax exempt status when Bishops attend political rallies? You might call it something different, but it is a political rally. And, I do not appreciate my bishop taking a stand on any law. I happen to disagree with Church on this issue and resent feeling as if I am going against the Church.
