Great Baton Rouge Stand Up Rally

When October 20 was set as the National Rally date, the first thing we did was check the LSU Tiger Football Schedule. We were in luck, it was an away game. However, as luck would have it, ESPN picked up the LSU vs A&M game and scheduled it for 11:00 a.m. Baton Rouge is Tiger Football country, so we knew this would create a challenge.
Our attendance was approximately 175 and it was a successful Rally. Two of the three television stations covered the Rally, as did the Daily Advocate Newspaper. We are waiting to see how much coverage we get.
We had a great mix of speakers. Catholic, non-Catholic, male, female, and minority. The speakers were terrific! We had a quartet to open and sing the National Anthem, and they were outstanding. We also had music provided by a 12 person choir that was truly upbeat and moving.
Prior to today’s event, we sent out thousands of emails, published in many church bulletins and the Diocesan Newspaper. Even though we had a smaller attendance, we know that we spread the word on this important issue. Facebook was also used to get the word to hundreds and beyond.
