I would guess, here in Pensacola, Fl we had between 200 and 300 people. Our newly ordained Bishop Gregory Parkes started off the rally with a great prayer followed by a great speech. Father Hector Perez added to the rally cry as he drove home the true meaning of religious freedom and how it is now being threatened and if we don’t hand the liberals a defeat at our voting booths, we are finished as a free country. There were other speakers as well and the crowd got the message. It is time to walk the walk. It is time to get out of our comfort zones and fight for what we know is fight.

  33. Lisa Nicholas says:

I’m sorry, but the turnout in Fort Worth has been FAR over-estimated. I was at the March rally, when there were perhaps as many as three hundred people, and I was at the rally today, where there appeared to be *no more* (perhaps even fewer) people in attendance than had attended the March rally. I was rather disappointed, particularly since the Dallas rally was cancelled — those people did not make it to Fort Worth, except for some (very good) speakers from Dallas. I was present from before the beginning of the rally at noon, until its close around 2:30, and I periodically scanned the crowd (looking for friends I expected to see). There was plenty of space for more attendees (I was standing close to the speakers’ area throughout).

Maybe someone included in the 1500 all the Republicans in downtown Fort Worth for the Texas GOP convention. However, except for some politicians who came over to speak at the rally, most of the conventioneers did NOT visit the rally (just two blocks from the Convention Center).

I hope other cities got a great turnout, but the numbers in Fort Worth did not even remotely approach the 1500 reported on your site. Nonetheless, it was a good event, and I’m glad I was there (both times).

Okay Bob, you try getting that many people in that many places to turn up for any single cause in the middle of the day on a weekday…I know personally of many people who would have been there if they could have, but were unable for various legitimate reasons. Nice attempt at trolling, though.

I am a Madison, WI resident, but was up north, visiting family, so I attended the Green Bay rally, instead, this time. At least a 1000, in my amateur estimation, petitions to sign and we heard some great speakers. That rally captain did a great job of organizing it all. We heard from a Polish priest who had been through the communist persecution in Poland. He was living proof the religious freedom is very fragile and worth fighting for.

  48. Diane Lewis says:

Our rally in Woodstock, IL. was amazing. We had four Rally coordinators who had never done this kind of thing before. We started just a few days before 2 weeks. We were so inexperienced we had to depend on God. And God was faithful, as usual. He brought us great speakers, despite a faulty sound system. It was awesome to see. I just saw the last count was over 400. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. this is truly a work of God.
I’m proud to be a part of this great work of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who united people who wouldn’t previously talk to each other ~ Protestant and Catholic, Buddhist, and Muslim, and everything in between. We were all gathered under the banner of FREEDOM!

I’m ALWAYS suspicious of the PROPAGANDA of round numbers – for instance – Minneapolis, MN 2000 people; Cincinnati OH 2500; Worcester MA 300; Charleston SC 700; etc. I’ll bet that the count at Charleston SC IS closer to 666 !!!

  54. Ken Kressin says:

I estimated Minneapolis at about 600. Brian Gibson’s estimate was not made by him, but reportedly an estimate from an unnamed government source. Since most of the attendees were bused in from Catholic churches, he could have computed the turnout more accurately by computing the number of buses and their capacity.

Louisville KY didn’t seem to have 700 to me, but I’ve never been good at estimates like that. I see that the “official” count appears to be 700, and the local news station that covered us said “hundreds” (although the claimed there were only dozens of rallies across the US, too) were in attendance. No matter, it was a great day and we stood up for our rights!!!!

I showed up at the Madison rally to support Obama’s HHS mandate, oppose the church’s attack on birth control, and ask the priests to stop molesting children. The angry Catholics there, some of whom equate birth control with abortion, called me a “non-person” and a “Communist,” told me to shut up and said I am going to hell. Seems the church does not want dialogue, only dogma.

I have not seen a report from the rally captain at the Vero Beach, Fl. Rally. We had an unofficial count of appoximatly 150 people. It had threatened rain earlier but the skies cleared and we had inspiring speeches and sang The Star Spangled Banner, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and God Bless America. Pastor Sempsrott called upon Our God and Creator to Bless our efforts and help all people in our Nation to realize that their rights to free speech and religious liberty came from Him first and foremost as described in Article 1 of Our Constitution. We were all inspired and sent forth by the Honorable David Weldon, M.D. to continue our work fighting for religious liberty and injustice in all its liberal forms in the many months and years ahead!!!

Green Bay Wisconsin had over 475 Attendees. This count was based on the number of small American flags/ Religious Freedom prayer cards distributed to each person as they arrived, until the start of the program.

  72. Mary Sorensen says:

Spokane had 110 people turn out for our rally. This morning, the local paper has a brief story: SpokesmanReview story

We spread out along the street with out signs… directly across the street from the SpokesmanReview offices – and we had called and e-mailed them to let them know about it in advance – but they still didn’t come out to do an interview. That is, not until our rally director marched over there and basically demanded it. Then the finally sent a reporter. Proverbs says: “The righteous are bold as a lion.”

Dan, I can’t excuse anyone calling you names — however, it’s obvious that your whole point in showing up was to be inflammatory and to slander many good men, and all but the very best of human beings are tempted to respond accordingly.
    C. Bail: who do you imagine is going to be paying for this? If you think the insurance companies will ultimately get stuck with the bill, I have a bridge to sell you (didn’t we learn anything from ‘credit card reform’?).

More than thrilled and happy to say..we had aprox 525 or so at peak time when our beloved Archbishop Thomas Wenski took the microphone for the most inspiring, motivating, STIRRING messages we could have POSSIBLY expected!! HE WAS ANOINTED! A little disappointed to add that some left after the Archbishop spoke…by Rally’s end we had about 350 BUT that 500 PLUS blew us out of the water! Many, MANY people asked excitedly WHEN THE NEXT RALLY IS!!! Folks, I think we must do it again!!!!!

  85. Bob Allen says:

@ 83 – enness – it sounds like you don’t believe that Catholic priests have ever sexually abused children. It also sounds like – in the Biblical admonition of “Judge not, least ye be judged” – that you are judging Dan. For shame.

And the way you attack C. Bail – a life-long Catholic – MISSES the point that C. Bail makes – which is – and I quote directly from post # 67 – “HOW DOES PROVIDING HEALTH COVERAGE FOR WOMEN’S ISSUES TAKE AWAY THEIR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM?!”

I believe that YOU, enness, are bearing a FALSE Witness here – which IS a VIOLATION of your God’s commandment found in Exodus 20:16 !!!!!!

Please, enness – READ and HEAD your God’s Commandments !

  86. Tom Scott says:

I will pray that a loving God may enlighten your minds and mine. How does making it easier and more affordable for women to plan family size and space children in accordance with their health and economic circumstances infringe upon your religious freedom? Would you deny married couples the comfort and pleasures of the marriage bed in order to limit the number of children they choose to raise? Please help me to understand.

  88. enness says:

Oh, I believe. But there’s a vast difference between demanding — respectfully, but firmly — for the responsible individuals to be held accountable, and just harrassing innocent people to make some kind of point. I have nothing to go on but what Dan said, but what he said indicates this perfectly well, so I stand by it.

As for the rest of your criticism…LOL. You can’t be serious. I leave it to the readers to decide whether I truly “attacked” C. Bail, or merely asked some provocative but very relevant questions.

    June 10th, 2012 at 8:39 am
  89. enness says:

Dear Tom Scott, thank you for being open to honest and respectful dialogue. I suggest looking into Natural Family Planning (NFP). The Church encourages married couples to be generously open to life, but that does not equate to expecting them to have the maximum number of babies they possibly can regardless of whether they can afford, financially, physically, or psychologically, to give them adequate care. It asks that there be grave/serious reasons, but it does not give a laundry list of what those reasons are (probably because it knows that some will be tempted to use that information as an offensive weapon in a game of “holier-than-thou”).

Sacrifice is required from both parties, yes, and I do not intend to make light of that; but first of all, a woman is not made to be fertile 24/7/365, so sex is not out of the question. Second, sacrifice is best approached as an opportunity to grow in virtue — love, patience, and obedience to God.

Don’t take this as any kind of official statement, it’s just my $.02.

    June 10th, 2012 at 8:54 am
  90. Bob Allen says:

@ 88 – enness – SO – Tom Scott in comment #86 – makes a similar point as does C. Bail in #67 – as Tom Scott puts it (and I quote) – “I will pray that a loving God may enlighten your minds and mine. How does making it easier and more affordable for women to plan family size and space children in accordance with their health and economic circumstances infringe upon your religious freedom?”

Once again, enness – YOU deliberatly REFUSE to address the issue that C. Bail raises in #67 – “HOW DOES PROVIDING HEALTH COVERAGE FOR WOMEN’S ISSUES TAKE AWAY THEIR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM?!” – and YOU REFUSE to address the issue that Tom Scott raises in #86 !!!!

SO – enness, popsey – YOU indeed ARE bearing FALSE Witness of these two posts – a VIOLATION of YOUR God’s COMMANDMENT found in Exodus 20:16 !!!!!!

DON’T YOU realize – enness – that by DOING this EVIL thing – VIOLATING Exodus 20:16 – that YOU – enness – ARE on YOUR way – of going to HELL ??????

REPENT – enness – REPENT – and seek forgiveness !!!!!

  95. enness says:

You’re right about one thing: I refuse to address you anymore…because you do not honestly seem to be interested in the truth. You are using the Bible as a weapon without any charity and, in all probability, not even believing the words coming from your keyboard (I’m open to reversal on the latter point if I hear anything that sounds like sincerity). Everything that I have said has not been primarily for your benefit, but so that any ‘lurkers’ watching this thread may learn something from it.

By the way, I’m not a “popsey” (or was that meant to be Popesey? Either way). I’m a woman under 30. If anyone wondered.

    Happy Corpus Christi. 🙂

  96. Ken Kressin says:

If some cities, like Minneapolis, are rounding to the thousands digit, then reporting the total to the one’s digit is misleading. It implies a false sense of accuracy. 49,819 should be reported as 50,000. For example, Minneapolis was likely closer to 1,000 than 2,000, and you’re creating the deception that the 2,000 report from Minneapolis was somehow accurate. Imagine if someone reported, “367,508 prayers this hour for supernatural miracles and zero were answered”.

  97. Eric Scheidler says:

    My Friends,

    Two requests:

    1. If you did not actually take a headcount, please do not report numbers here.

It is notoriously difficult to count large crowds of people. That’s why many police departments, including the Capitol Police in D.C., no longer routinely provide their own headcounts for events like this.

Ask people to “guess” on the size of a crowd of 2,000, for example, and you’ll get everything from 400 to 4,000.

Our Rally Captains were trained in how to take accurate headcounts, using a variety of methods.

    2. Please don’t respond to trollers.

The issues at stake here are too serious to waste any time talking to those who post comments in bad faith, rousing tempers to serve their desperate need for attention.

Your time would be better spent visiting some of the news stories on Friday’s Rally and clearing up some of the myths still being perpetuated by the media, such as the falsehood that President Obama has already “accommodated” the concerns of religious employers.

Check out this page of Talking Points to help you out!

    Yours for Life,

    — Eric

  118. Glenda LaGarde says:

Women (and men) are free to buy and use contraceptives; what offends religious freedom is the government’s forcing individuals and institutions to provide contraceptives, including abortifacient ones, and sterilization free of charge to all their employees/students or to use insurance plans which cover those with no co-pay for employees/students. To make what is considered wrong or immoral more accessible and to aid and abate immoral procedures like abortion and sterilization, is, to believers, collusion with evil. They have the right to conscientious objection. Moreover, and a greater offense, for government to define “religious” individuals or institutiuons only exempt if they provide services (like education or hospital care)only for those of like faith. But religions have the right to act out their beliefs in the services they provide to all Americans, regardless of race, creed, or ethnic origin. Contraceptives are easily and cheaply accessible without threatening believers with fines and deprivations unless they go against their consciences.
