STAND UP FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

A Texas Style Rally in Houston

Houston Stand Up RallyMy name is Margarita Rath, a resident in Huffman, Texas and parishioner of St Philip Catholic Church. A small group of 5 women from a Familia group at St Philip stand outside Planned Parenthood once a month on vigil prayer for an hour each time to help Houston Coalition doing sidewalk counseling.

I am one of those women and when we noticed there was not a Houston group registered on your website to do a rally I started checking every day until 3 days before the event took place I picked up the phone to call you to offer our help and so I signed on as a rally captain.

Soon I started getting emails with people offering their help and asking for directions to the place. My first call was from Christine Melchor, Director of Houston Coalition, she works in the RV parked outside Planned Parenthood building which offers pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling amongst other services all free of charge.

Christine quickly made sure that we had everything we were going to need from speakers, sound system, permits, outlined program, etc I helped replying to all emails and answering phone calls, then the day of the event I brought the Stand up for Religious Freedom signs, American flags and yellow balloons.

On a 90 degree and high humidity afternoon 200 citizens from all over Houston showed up to Stand up for Religious Freedom Rally. It was a wonderful ecumenical group who all with the same thought in mind did not mind to stand up and support us on our “Texas style” hot afternoon rally from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Friday June 8, 2012 outside Planned Parenthood building.

Bonnie Pritchet from World Magazine and World on Campus website offered to be our reporter and she followed us at every step. You can find her report on David Fullerton’s speech here.

Howdy neighbor and Sister in Christ, I just want to congratualate you on pulling together 200 folks at the last minute for your rally there in Houston. I’m a Fort Worth resident and parishoner at St. Patrick Cathedral, but as my daughter is attending University of Houston, I’ve become kind of fond of H-town.
Y’all keep up the good work and I’m sure with prayer and persistence we’ll be able to make a difference in this battle.
Don’t mess with Texas! Amen?, Amen!
