New Chapter in Religious Freedom Battle Starts Today

Today, the HHS Mandate goes into effect forcing all employers to provide contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs to their employees through their healthcare plans.
But it is not a day to despair. It is a day to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the fight to defend our religious freedom.
To the right you’ll see a photo taken today of the first group of protesters outside the White House led by longtime activist Rev. Pat Mahoney. Bearing the banner of the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rallies, Rev. Mahoney and his cohorts are making it clear to the White House that this is far from over.
As we noted earlier this week, the numerous lawsuits against the Mandate are making headway through the courts, and more and more religious freedom rallies, concerts and other events are cropping up throughout the country. Stay tuned to this site for more an exciting announcement on the next nationwide action soon.
In the meantime, there is plenty you can do to join the fight. Educate your community, your parish, your school about the threats to our freedoms using the tools you can find on the Take Action Right Now page. Find or start a religious freedom Rally in your area. Talk to friends and relatives about what’s going on in our country. Register to vote and make sure everyone you know who cares about religious freedom is registered too.
November holds a lot of promise for change, but only if we work hard now. This is not over. Today is a new beginning—let’s make the most of it.

I waited all day yesterday for some sort of public statement from our bishops, pro-life legislators, etc. Where was everyone?

Those in congress who voted against the Blunt Amendment to table the Obama HHS Mandate may be excommunicated if they’re Catholic according to Canon Law 1398; that means they can’t receive the sacraments under pain of committing a sacrilege; they have to talk to their priest to find out their status.
