Victory for Conscience Protection in Missouri

Posted by John Jansen (September 17, 2012 at 1:23 pm)

Stand Up Rally signsA great victory for religious freedom was scored last week when the Missouri legislature overrode a veto by Governor Jay Nixon of Senate Bill 749.

The bill, which passed with wide margins in both the state House and Senate earlier this summer, was written in direct response to the HHS Mandate.

SB 749 ensures that employees and employers in the state of Missouri will not be forced to participate in, provide, pay for, or provide referrals for health plans or services that cover contraceptives, sterilizations, or abortion-causing drugs.

In a special veto session last week, the Missouri Senate resoundingly voted 26-6 and the Missouri House voted 109-45 to override Governor Nixon’s veto of the bill. [Continue reading …]

Over 90 Cities to Rally for Religious Freedom Oct. 20

Posted by John Jansen (September 4, 2012 at 11:33 am)

Rally CitiesThe next Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally is still more than six weeks away, and today our list of cities is already at 92!

More than 125,000 people attended the March 23 and June 8 Rallies, and the number of cities already on board for October 20 indicates that the Stand Up for Religious Freedom campaign shows no signs of weakening.

On the contrary, opposition among the American people to the HHS Mandate’s assault on religious freedom is intense—and getting stronger!

From Miami, Florida to Seattle, Washington and all the way out to Honolulu, Hawaii the American people are sending a message that we will not stand idly by while the federal government forces all employer health plans to provide free contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of any moral or religious objections.

Check out the Locations Page to see all the cities taking part and find a Rally near you.

Don’t see one in your area? Organize one!

Fortnight for Freedom Begins TODAY

Posted by John Jansen (June 21, 2012 at 2:05 pm)

The day before the HHS Mandate was issued on January 20, Pope Benedict XVI warned U.S. Bishops that “radical secularism” poses grave threats to the “right of conscientious objection … to cooperation in intrinsically evil practices”.

Since then, the U.S. Bishops have been steadfastly outspoken against the HHS Mandate’s assault on religious freedom, and their leadership and messaging has been widely praised by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

As part of their response to the HHS Mandate, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called for a Fortnight for Freedom—a time of prayer, education and action on religious freedom starting today, June 21 to July 4.

We wholeheartedly support the Fortnight for Freedom, and we encourage you to take part.

You can find out more about the Fortnight and view the bishops’ educational resources on religious freedom here, and you can get more information on specific events in your diocese here.

Record Crowd at Chicago Stand Up Rally

Posted by John Jansen (June 8, 2012 at 11:44 pm)

Chicago Rally CrowdA Dixieland jazz band. A swing dancing flash mob. Stirring speeches by members of the Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, and Catholic faiths. All of these and more were part of the Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom’s flagship event today in downtown Chicago’s Federal Plaza.

A record crowd of 3,500 attended the rally—far surpassing the crowd of 2,500 that attended the city’s first Stand Up Rally on March 23.

This 40% increase in attendance is a clear sign that opposition to the HHS Mandate—not only in Chicago, but nationwide—is showing no signs of slowing down. [Continue reading …]

Stand Up Rallies TODAY in 164 U.S. Cities

Posted by John Jansen (June 8, 2012 at 6:00 am)

Rally CitiesThe list of cities taking part in today’s Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally now stands at 164—far surpassing the 145 cities that participated in the first Stand Up Rally on March 23.

The number of cities on board for today’s Nationwide Rally shows that the massive turnout seen at that first Rally on March 23 was hardly a one-time phenomenon.

Opposition among the American people to the HHS Mandate’s assault on religious freedom is intense—and getting stronger!

From Augusta, Maine to Miami, Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska to Honolulu, Hawaii the American people are sending a message that we will not stand idly by while the federal government forces all employer health plans to provide free contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of any moral or religious objections.

Later tonight, you don’t want to find yourself saying, “I wish I had gone to the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally.”

Don’t be that guy. Be there!

Check out the Locations Page to see all the cities taking part and find a Rally near you!
