Amistad Parade Caps Del Rio Texas Stand Up Rally

Posted by Rosie Aguilar (October 23, 2012 at 5:15 pm)

The Del Rio, Texas, Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally was held on Friday October 19 at 5:00 p.m. at Val Verde County Court House. The date had to be moved up a day due to Del Rio’s Amistad (Friendship) Parade. Del Rio Texas is a border town and it has been a tradition to celebrate this parade with Acuña Coahuila Mexico, our sister city.

Guest speakers were Father Henry Clay Hunt, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Mr. Gene Chapman, former chairman of the local Republican party. Our emcee was Lucy Van Goethem. Letty Escobar lead the Pledge Allegiance and Father Pious, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, lead the closing prayer.

Most of our rally team participated in the Amistad parade the next day, carrying our Stand Up for Religious Freedom Signs to represent the churches of Del Rio.

This was our third Stand Up Rally and we are very proud to stand up for religious freedom.

March, Songs and Rally in Honolulu

Posted by John Roco (October 23, 2012 at 4:35 pm)

Our Rally in Honolulu was a small intimate crowd, 20 joined in prayer and song. It was an ecumenical celebration of life, religious liberty, and fighting for what is right.

We had children, a large family, and people individually and in couples committed to a cause.

We had beautiful prayers and songs, finishing with our march around the building and the pictures. Aloha from Honolulu!

Prayer and Patriotism at Quad Cities Rally

Posted by Jeanne Wonio (October 23, 2012 at 4:00 pm)

Stand Up DavenportWe in the Quad Cities are in a unique area along the Mississippi River that includes both Iowa and Illinois.

During our Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally this past Saturday, we were happy to hear read the guest editorial from Bishop Jenky that appeared in our local paper the morning of the Rally.

Rev. Jerry Logan continued that thread when he made his remarks after leading the opening prayer. Rand Wonio read excerpts from the Declaration and the First Amendment. He commented for a minute on the importance of that document. [Continue reading …]

Cape May Court House Stands Up and Speaks Up for Religious Freedom

Posted by Beth Ann Boehmler (October 23, 2012 at 2:30 pm)

Stand Up Cape MayToday, a crowd of approximately one hundred and twenty-five concerned citizens gathered in front of the historic Cape May County Court House in Cape May Court House, NJ. This quaint county seat of Cape May County is generally quiet this time of year as the “summer people” have all gone home and only the locals remain. But, today was different. [Continue reading …]

Kansas and Missouri Stand Up for Religious Freedom in Kansas City

Posted by Francis Slobodnik (October 23, 2012 at 12:45 pm)

Stand Up Kansas CityThe combined Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, Stand Up Rally was a tremendous success, with 200 in attendance. We had a very impressive list of speakers who were very interested in speaking or having statements read at this event.

These included a statement from the Most Reverend Joseph Naumann, Archbishop of Kansas City. Lt. Governor Dr. Jeff Colyer spoke, and a statement was sent by Missouri Senator Roy Blunt.

The crowd was very serious, understanding the immense gravity of the mandate. After the rally the Rosary was prayed.

A thorough write-up of the Rally, including photos and video, by “Deb,” a Rally attendee is available here.

Spokanites Brave Bone-Chilling Winds in Defense of Religious Freedom

The wind kept our flags unfurled

The wind kept our flags unfurled

About 100 turned out for the Spokane, WA rally in front of the federal courthouse.

The winds were 30 MPH, with gusts over 55 – and it was verrrry cold. But we had 4 fantastic speakers, and lots of enthusiasm. And 4 truly excellent speeches!

A good crowd turned out in Spokane

Our keynote speaker, Dr. David Dewolf – law professor at Gonzaga Law School, explained how the HHS mandate is, quite simply, bad law, which no one should support.

And we heard from Jodi, a pharmacist, explaining how contraceptives are not health care, but, rather, a cause of health problems – from breast cancer to blood clots – and, therefore, we should never be forced to pay for them. [Continue reading …]

We’re currently working on a compilation of video highlights from Chicago’s Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally, but there’s already a great deal of footage from the rally posted on YouTube. Citizen journalism at its finest!

Following a spirited march from Federal Plaza to Daley Plaza, Father Frank “Rocky” Hoffman led off the rally with a rousing talk:

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, Surprise Guest in Owensboro, KY

Posted by Rachel Evans (October 23, 2012 at 10:12 am)

Stand Up Rally #3

Having secured speakers for the third Owensboro Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally, we expected a letter from our U.S. Congressman to be read to us by one of his staff members.

Moments before noon, she informed us that the Congressman was on his way to our rally! We were certainly pleased that he had rearranged a full schedule to come join us! Rep. Guthrie told the crowd that he would continue representing his constituents by vigorously fighting against the HHS Mandate.

“Rest assured I am doing my part in Washington to help overturn this destructive rule. As many of you know, I am a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and its Health Subcommittee which has held several hearings on this rule during which I have expressed my opposition. Additionally, I have cosponsored the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, which would reverse this rule by allowing health plans to decline coverage of contraception when it conflicts with their religious beliefs. I will continue to hold the Obama Administration accountable and will continue to encourage my colleagues in Washington to do the same.”

South Dakotans Stand Up for Religious Freedom

Posted by Jane Everson (October 22, 2012 at 3:25 pm)

The very first Stand Up For Religious Freedom rally in eastern South Dakota was held in Yankton with 140 people attending. We enjoyed a beautiful fall day as we brought attention to the HHS Mandate’s infringement on our First Amendment.  We sang patriotic hymns and paid tribute to our veterans and service men and women.  Acknowledging  that we as American’s need to accept our responsibility for our country as well built momentum.  All of our actions make a difference!  All of our votes do count!
